The Microbiology Laboratory performs both direct microbiological tests and cultures of biological fluids, which can function either to prevent infection or as a means of monitoring an epidemic as early detection in combination with identifying the germs that can cause an infection and selecting the appropriate treatment is a key precondition for successfully treating the infection.

Urine tests are also performed at the microbiological laboratory for both general testing and urine testing with phase contrast microscopy to determine the origin of the red blood cells (bladder ureters, etc.) in cases of hematuria as glomerular hematuria requires immunological examination and renal biopsy whereas non-glomerular hematuria requires imaging of urinary tract and cystoscopy, serological and microscopic examinations and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination.
